Petrobras claims it is leading Brazil’s energy transition, even with its expansion in oil and gas.

Petrobras claims it is leading Brazil’s energy transition and is strengthening its investments beyond oil and gas; see what’s changing.

Petrobras claims to be leading Brazil’s energy transition and is reinforcing its commitment beyond oil and gas.

Petrobras stated that it is already leading Brazil’s energy transition, according to company executives, at an event held this week in São Paulo.

The statement came after questions arose about how the company intends to reconcile its oil and gas investments with clean energy projects.

The statement comes shortly after exploration was authorized on the equatorial margin, a sensitive area at the mouth of the Amazon River, at a time when the company is facing environmental criticism and the national debate about the country’s energy future is intensifying.

The company asserted that the strategy is not limited to institutional rhetoric, but rather is a solid plan to transform the Brazilian energy sector with social and environmental responsibility. This commitment reinforces Petrobras’ leadership in a global scenario where oil, gas, and the energy transition go hand in hand.

Petrobras executive highlights its leading role in the energy transition.

During the event, Ana Claudia Esteves, Petrobras’ advertising and media manager, emphasized that the company is already making concrete progress in the energy transition in Brazil.

“Petrobras is currently the company that invests the most in research on the energy transition in the country. Therefore, this is not just a positioning or marketing strategy. It is a business plan, a strategic plan,” Esteves stated. “The energy transition is already underway.”

In this way, the state-owned company aims to demonstrate that, despite its history linked to oil and gas, it is already incorporating innovation and sustainability into its future.

The debate arose after the approval of oil exploration on the equatorial margin.

The statement came shortly after questions arose about how Petrobras intends to balance its discourse on the energy transition with the authorization granted by Ibama (the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) to explore the equatorial zone. The issue reignited the debate about the environmental impact on the region, which is home to sensitive ecosystems on the coast of the Amazon River estuary.

Environmental organizations and scientists criticized the exploration, citing a lack of sufficient studies to guarantee environmental protection. However, the company reiterated its commitment to social and environmental responsibility and the development of Brazil’s energy sector.

Just Energy Transition: A Social and Environmental Approach
Commenting on the issue, Esteves emphasized that the energy transition must include society and respect environmental aspects.

“We speak of a just energy transition because we don’t want to leave anyone behind; we don’t want to create energy inequality in the country. It is just simply because it is for everyone.”

In this way, Petrobras affirms that it unites two essential pillars for the future of energy: competitiveness and social equality.

Petrobras is committed to its national image and its connection with Brazilians.

Petrobras also celebrated, for the seventh time, its recognition as the brand that best represents Brazil in the Datafolha survey. The most recent campaign, starring Camila Pitanga and Diogo Nogueira, reinforces the company’s emotional positioning.

“Our [marketing] strategy consists precisely of evoking that emotion, of demonstrating that Petrobras has a connection with Brazil and is responsible for the country’s development.”

Furthermore, the state-owned company emphasizes that, to transform the sector, it needs to interact directly with the population and demonstrate how the energy transition impacts the daily lives of Brazilians.

Oil, gas, and a sustainable future are advancing hand in hand in Brazil.

Petrobras seeks to balance its historical role in the oil and gas sector with the expansion of clean energy. At the same time, it reinforces the idea that the energy transition is already underway and will continue to accelerate, positioning Brazil on the path to sustainable technologies without compromising energy security.

The debate must continue, especially since Brazil is at a crucial juncture in terms of how to leverage its natural resources while positioning itself as a global leader in renewable energy.
