The Betis goalkeeper keeps his sixth clean sheet of the season in Vallecas: “If you can’t win, it’s important not to lose”
Goalkeeper Álvaro Valles kept another clean sheet in Vallecas, his sixth of the season – three in LaLiga and three in the Europa League. The goalkeeper emphasized the importance of keeping a clean sheet after the five goals scored by FC Barcelona and hopes Llorente’s injury isn’t serious: “It was a warning, hopefully it’s just a scare,” he told RTV Betis after the match.
His analysis of the 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano was as follows: “Yes, in the end it’s always important to get points. It’s true that the team is ambitious and came here with the mentality of getting those three points we lost at home last week, but well, in the end, that’s how the game goes, and when the final whistle blows, if you can’t win, you can’t lose. It’s also important to get points away from home; continuing to be unbeaten away from home is very important for us, to regain that defensive confidence and not concede after a tough defeat last week with heavy goals. And well, defensively I think the team was spectacular. We knew that any tiny detail could tip the game one way or the other. We weren’t lucky in front of goal, but today we were solid defensively and avoided Rayo’s danger. Well, we have to keep going because this is a long season and we have to always look for the positives and, if there are negatives, reinforce them and keep working to minimize them,” commented Álvaro Valles.
The competition doesn’t stop, and on Wednesday we have to go to Murcia to play in the Cup, and on Sunday we’ll say goodbye to 2025 at home against Rayo: “Yes, in the end, that’s what we have to do. We’re still alive in all three competitions, the team is showing a good image in all three, we have to keep going like this because with so many competitions, all my teammates are focused and committed because we’re all important to the manager, and he makes that clear to us, and we have to keep going. Now we have the Cup, and we have to get through the next round and keep going in the Cup, because we have that wonderful memory from a few years ago, and we know that if we stay alive there, it’s also a competition we can win,” said the Betis goalkeeper.
Álvaro Valles had the opportunity to speak with Diego Llorente about his injury: “Yes, I asked him, and well, I think it’s a minor discomfort that he’s been carrying for a few days, and it felt a bit stronger than usual. Let’s hope it’s just a scare, and it was a warning. In the end, he’s smart.” He’s done the smartest thing, hasn’t he? Not forcing it and not aggravating the injury. Let’s hope it’s as minor as possible and we have him back with us as soon as possible.”
