Nippon Television broadcaster Daisuke Sugaya passed away on November 8. He was 53 years old. The network announced his death on November 10. According to the statement:

“After returning from work on the evening of Friday, November 7, he felt unwell and was rushed to a hospital in Tokyo. His condition suddenly worsened, and he passed away at 1:06 p.m. the following day, Saturday, November 8. The cause of death was a gastrointestinal hemorrhage.”

The company added: “Even after announcing his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2022, we had seen him working with great dedication as a news anchor and manager until shortly before his passing, so everyone at the company is shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden news. We are immensely grateful for the deceased’s achievements and offer our deepest condolences to his family.”

Sugaya was born in November 1971 in Chiba Prefecture. He joined the network in 1997, and his first regular program was “Super Jockey” in July of that year. He subsequently participated in variety shows, sports broadcasts, and news programs.

In August 2022, he announced that he had pancreatic cancer. In November 2021, he underwent a medical checkup in preparation for the Hakone Ekiden, during which the pancreatic cancer was detected. He revealed that he underwent chemotherapy and laparoscopic surgery.
