Güstrow (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) – An arrest has been made in the Fabian murder case (†8)! The prosecutor’s office announced this in a brief statement on Thursday afternoon.
“Following the searches, a woman was arrested,” stated Harald Nowack, spokesperson for the Rostock prosecutor’s office. He added that several witness statements had been reviewed in recent days. These statements were corroborated and led to strong suspicions against the woman.
Ex-girlfriend at the police station
Initially, the relationship between the suspect and young Fabian was unclear. However, according to Der Spiegel, she is believed to be the father’s ex-girlfriend. She was arrested at her home by a police patrol at 6:42 p.m. According to BILD, investigators took her to the Güstrow police station.
On Wednesday evening, the Fabian murder case was featured on the ZDF television program “Aktenzeichen XY… ungelöst” (XY Case… Unsolved). On Thursday, several properties were searched in Reimershagen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and the neighboring village of Rum Kogel. Around 120 officers were deployed starting at 6:00 a.m.
State prosecutor Harald Nowack stated, “To date, we have received 33 complaints. We are investigating these complaints and examining their veracity.” However, he added, “The searches and arrests are completely unrelated to yesterday’s broadcast.”
Van and sneakers confiscated
According to the police, several items were seized for analysis. Among other things, investigators removed sneakers in plastic bags from the house in Reimershagen. In addition, during the searches, a copper-colored pickup truck belonging to Fabian’s father’s ex-girlfriend was towed. It will be taken for forensic analysis, a police spokesperson reported.
Little Fabian disappeared in October.
Little Fabian vanished without a trace from his parents’ home on Schweriner Straße in Güstrow on Friday, October 10, at 10:50 a.m. It is possible that someone picked him up. Detective Chief Frank Focke stated, “We assume he was taken by car, as the location where he was found is far from his home.”
Four days after Fabian’s disappearance, his body was found on the bank of a pond near Klein Upahl. It was burned beyond recognition. Fabian’s father’s ex-girlfriend found the body one morning while walking her dog. It is believed that the boy was murdered on the same day he disappeared.
